Off the clock
The Cabin
The cabin is where I go to unplug, work with my hands, and figure out solutions to problems that don't live on a screen.
- Where
- Border of VA and WV
- Power
- Off-grid 12v DC solar system
- Current project
- Updating the power from a 12V DC to 48V AC
- Crew
- Me, my dad, and my dog Noodle
The place
A cabin my dad built in the 1980s. He stripped the logs, squared them, and stacked them.
What I do there
Right now I'm rewiring the entire cabin, changing it from 12-volt DC system to a 48-volt AC system.
Why it matters
It's a great way to spend time with my dad, keep his mind sharp, and it keeps me honest as a designer. I love thinking on my feet, finding practical solutions, and then using the resources I have to make it happen. It's also a regular reminder that design is more than pixels on a screen.
